Why podcast in the first place?

Podcasts are straightforward to write, record and produce, right?

Turns out, not really.

At the beginning of June (2021) it suddenly dawned on me that I should try podcasting. After writing history articles for my history page on Facebook (The Bald Historian), it seemed like a natural step. After all, I am a huge history nerd and will chew off anyone’s ear about history or take any opportunity to attack anyone with a history fact.

The first step was to pick a topic for the first episode, and also for the first season. I decided on the relationship between England and France between 1066 and 1453, which covers the Norman Conquest through to the end of the Hundred Years War between the two kingdoms. I love medieval history which is why I decided upon this subject. What better way to begin a podcast that to produce content on a subject that I love?

Do your research.

In any creative endeavour, it is essential, for me at least, to have some sort of structure in place. To be able to offer your audience a high-quality podcast you need to know what you are talking about, and to be able to say it with confidence.
